Nana's Visiting

My mom is up visiting us today so I thought I'd show you a page i did recently of Christmas at her house.

I love that I am almost finished scrapping 2009 Christmas - I have never done this before!

Last time my mom came to visit we did this:
These window writers were so much fun and they come right off with windex!
Then we took Skyler to get her first build a bear - she chose a puppy, much to Serenity's delight!
Here's Skyler in the pj's you got her mom!  15 pics and this was the best one, man it's hard to capture a moving baby!

I have no idea what we will be up to today but hopefully we'll be getting outside!

What are your weekend plans?

F is for - 4 the Record

***Spoiler ALERT*** Anyone in the Scrapaholics who doesn't want to ruin the surprise, this is my circle journal for the year!

I am playing along with Jenny's Alphabe-Thursday and if you want to play along, or just view other participant's posts, click on the link on my sidebar! There are prizes as well as FUN!

I've known most of the Scrapaholics for a few years now so circle journal entries by them are a cool way to get to know each other better!

This is my title page:

(Yes, those are keys from my old laptop - I took it apart and kept them for scrapbooking LOL)
My Rules:

My page:
I can't take credit for the look of the trees.  I got this idea from the Jillibean Soup blog!  I looooove Jillibean Soup and can't wait for the new lines!!!  I used every tree on only one sheet of paper to create all the pages for this journal!

Tell me four things about yourself!

Vintage Recipe Journal

I made this page in one of the circle journal's I am participating in.  The topic was vintage recipe's and the Cosmo Cricket Early Bird line worked great for this!
I chose to do this 1953 Betty Crocker Old Fashioned Meatloaf recipe because it is the best Meatloaf ever!  I took a picture of it afterwards but decided not to put it on my page because Meatloaf just doesn't look appetizing, really it doesn't!  But it sure does taste GREAT!!
What is your favourite vintage recipe?  Did you love Julie and Julia?  I loved when she brought her some butter in the end!

Olympic Date

Snuffy and I went on a date to one of the Olympic Medal Ceremonies!  We got there super early so we decided to walk along the seawall and this is what we saw:

What a gorgeous day!
Some of the Pavillions (the big Q is Quebec House, Sask House is beside it and Ontario house is there too)
Someone took the time to build hundreds of these Inukshuks (so spelt that wrong) all along the waterfront!
The guy on the chair used a megaphone to tell us which way to go even though there were only 3 of us there LOL!
We settled in our pretty good seats with our $4 bottle of water and $8 can of beer!  There was a Northwest Territories show (lots of drumming and chanting) and then onto the medal ceremony for the women's halfpipe snowboard!
The bronze and silver medals went to the USA and Australia won gold!
Love the yellow slicker!
Then came the Theory of a Deadman concert that made me feel both young and old all at the same time! Young because this was the type of concert Snuffy and I used to go to - the kind your mother would just call noise LOL - metal!  Old because, I didn't know any of the songs LOL!
Total blast, next week we are thinking of taking the girls to some of the pavillions, we shall see!

Do you have the Olympic spirit?

E is for Enthusiasm

I am participating in Jenny's Alphabe-Thursday!  If you want to play along or just see other participant's entries, just click on my sidebar!  It's FUN and there are Prizes for participating!

Enthusiasm, my family and I have it in spades!  When we do things it is always loud and funny and full of enthusiasm!  There are even a few Drama Queen's among us as well (not naming any names LOL)!

We are the people who are always having the best time!  Whether it is at the pumpkin patch:

or... at the park in the snow....
or...just learning how to stand up!
We know how to have some FUN!!!!

George Carlin would describe us as the people who don't just go into a 7/11, we fling open the door, state loud and proud, "We're here 7/11 and we want to buy milk, make it 2%!!!"

What are you enthusiastic about?

Secrets ...shhhh!

People want to know my secrets!  Shanna thinks I don't sleep and everyone asks how I have the time.

1. Crafting time:  Nope, I don't craft every day!  I usually take one morning each weekend and get 4 or 5 LO's done!  I preplan my pages so they come together fairly quickly.  I choose paper, draw sketches, write down ideas or just look through pictures during the week when the kids don't need me.

2.  I do go to a once a month crop with the Scrapaholics - check out their blogs on my sidebar!  These ladies rock and always inspire me!

3.  When I do scrapbook I never sew!  I poke the holes where I want to sew later and then sew on my LO's at night while I watch TV!

4. Autopost:  Is there anything better than this?  So cool to do all my posts for the week right after I finish the pages and take the pictures!  Then I have all my posts for the week (usually I post every second day or so)!

5. Nope, It is not my handwriting that everyone always admires, it is Ali Edwards! LOL  I downloaded her font HERE (no viruses) and use it on almost all my pages as "my" handwriting!

So, what are some of your best kept secrets for crafting or blogging?  C'mon, give em up!!!

Festival of Trees

The Festival of Trees is a display in the Four Seasons Hotel where different companies decorate trees to look at!  The most creative ornies were definitely the ones created out of door stoppers and faucets (not pictured here) but the girls loved the McDonald's and Firefighter trees best!  Oh the dalmation lights made Serenity shriek with excitement!

I created the large background tree by taking a 12x12 piece of white paper and cutting it in half on the diagonal.  Then I punched strips of patterned paper, inked them and stapled them to the triangles (being sure to line up the rows).  Super easy and a great use of scraps (I am going crazy with my Making Memories Mistletoe line of paper)!
Do you like to make your own embellies or buy the premade ones?

D is for Decorating the Tree

I am participating in Jenny's Alphabe-Thursday!  If you want to play along or just see other participant's posts, click on the link on my sidebar!  C'mon, it's fun AND there are prizes!

I just love this Bo Bunny Christmas line and the awesome huge ornies!  I popped them up and then gave em a bit 'o' bling!

Then I created this tree by cutting small strips of paper and looping them over in layers!  It gets better as I move up the tree and get a handle on doing it LOL!
The girls were a bit destructive this year!
What is your favourite ornament?

In search of 50 things

I've been trying to throw out 50 things (or recycle them) and it has been hard work to find stuff to get rid of!

Here's where I am now:

11. Clothes - to goodwill (from me and Snuffy)
12. Old towels - gosh, how long can you use a towel for?  Some of these had to go
13. Toys - ok, this was the whopper!  we have soooo many toys so i decided to be ruthless and give lots of them away.  See:

...and this is only the toys from downstairs! (yes, those dolls are still good but the only thing the girls do with them is strip them naked LOL - now someone else can enjoy them)

14. Broken broom - Serenity broke it while trying to help me clean LOL!
15. Old CD's - scratched and just sitting around taking up space!
16. Magnets and fridge junk - so tired of my fridge being covered in useless junk!
17-50. ONE OLD VAN!  - ok, so i couldn't find 50 things to throw out (which means i'm doing good at the purging thing) but i think Snuffy caught the bug because he finally decided to finish stripping the old van of parts and he's going to have it towed away for scrap!  Wooo Hoooo!

PS - I have been having intermittent computer problems b/c some Yahoo sent me a virus so if i don't get around to your blogs for a bit, please forgive me!

I had a hoot making this Gingerbread man for my page! Love his goofy face with those awesome dew drops that i got in a RAK from Queen Kat (thanks Kat)!

This was a super awesome day with my crazy kids and kid sister!  So glad she is around to be a great auntie to my girls!!!
What do you love about your sister (or brother)?

Perfect Pears

Ok, so the girls aren't a pair any more, they're a threesome, but i love their new matching pear pj's and thought I'd do a page about them.

I got the pear paper piecing from Scrapbooks Etc magazine and knew that i had to use it here!  Especially since the seeds were hearts on the piecing and on their pj's!

Check out what is left of this piece of patterned paper.  I used all the apples for other pages and now most of the pears.  I'm gonna try to use most of it but i can't think of what to use the radishes for LOL!!!  Do you try to get the most out of your patterned paper?
I can no longer eat pears because they were the first thing to make me really sick when I was pregnant with Serenity!  My fave fruit is actually strawberries.  What is your fave fruit?

Throw out 50 Things

I saw this book at the library and was intrigued!  What were these 50 things that i could live without?  Turns out the philosophy is to go in each room of your house and find 50 things you can throw away or recycle!  Darn, i was hoping for a list LOL!

I love to purge (and Snuffy is a pack rat - how the heck did we end up together LOL) but I thought this might be a challenge for me to take on!  Could I even find 50 things to throw out?

The catch is that you can only take 2 weeks to do it AND you can only count things in one category once.  For example, if you throw out 30 magazines it is only one thing = magazines!

You are also supposed to write down each thing you throw out so you see your accomplishment later!

Welllllllllllll, I am SO glad i decided to take on this challenge because I discovered we had a major leak in our sink and it had filled up our humidifier and was slowly spilling over! See the wet spot:

So here is #1 - 10:

1. Potions and Lotions - I have so many of these and some i couldn't even recall buying.  One was even sweating.............inside the jar!!! ICK!!!
2. Medicine - ok, so it surprised me how much expired stuff we had but it was no problem throwing it out!

3. Books - into Skylers room and I found some books to recycle.  Yup, by the time we're finished with them no one else wants em they are chewed, torn and generally missing pages.

4. Christmas cards - the hand made ones i kept but the store bought ones I recycled!

5. The girl's artwork - I keep it all year long and then sort out my faves at the end of the year and throw the rest out (otherwise we'd have a filing cabinet full already)

6. An old flashlight that doesn't work.

7. Lots of kitchen stuff - grater, peeler, knife etcetera.

8. Food - yup, some food for the food bank!

9. Empty DVD cases - i have no idea why i was keeping these.

10. Linens - ratty old ones that we never use!

I'll update when I find more things to throw out!  I can hear the clock ticking ........

Do you need to throw out 50 things?

C is for Circle Journal

***Spoiler Alert**** Anyone in Maggi's circle journal - don't read this post if you want to be surprised by my circle journal! (I don't mind a lack of surprise with these)

I am playing along with Jenny's Alphabe-Thursday and if you want to play along, or just view other participant's posts, click on the link on my sidebar! There are prizes as well as FUN!

I chose the topic "Why I love being a Girl" and this is the result:

The title page I did with a heart punch and made it tone on tone pink with one red heart pop dotted off the page!  I dressed up my Maya Road girl with a little bling and some black shoes!
(that big black spot in the middle is some personal info LOL)
I loved doing the paper pleating for these pages.  It really looks like a skirt to me!  I used lots of staples to hold the pleats in place.  You can click on a picture to see it better!
Why do you love being a girl?

2010

I saw this idea (to use your fingers to represent the numbers 2010) on Hollie's blog and thought it would be a hoot to see if the girls could do this too!  So here are there 2010 pictures!
Serenity

As you can see, she got giggly towards the end so the "O's" aren't really circles LOL!
Rayna
Love Rayna's last "0"!

Are you doing anything to commemorate 2010?  We won tickets to an Olympic event so we're going to that soon too!
