12 Days of Christmas Traditions

Welcome to the Blog Party hosted by Just Add Glitter and Stir (aka Maggi)!

My party is all about traditions. I love my Christmases old fashioned and snow white with Santa drinking a Coke!

Here are 12 of MY traditions:

1. Movie - Watching my fave Christmas movie of all time - White Christmas! But since I am a HUGE fan of the movies in general, all movies set at Christmas time also count as Christmas movies. So I watch Die Hard too! LOL!!

2. Sending Cards - I've always sent cards but in recent years I've been making them. This is this year's card! (yes, I am already done all of my Christmas Cards! - there IS something wrong with me!)
3. Song - "I'll Be Home For Christmas" sung by Bing Crosby is one of the most incredible songs EVER! He sure has THE VOICE of Christmas for me! Click on my sidebar to listen to it while you read my post!

4. Cutting Down our own Tree - This is a new tradition for us. I did it a few times when I was a kid and loved it so much that I'm going to do it every year for our kids!

5. THE Story/Legend:

Santa actually came to my house when we were kids! No lie! He came at 2 AM and all he said was "Ho Ho Ho" as he motioned for my Mom to bring the gifts into the house that were surrounding him! AMAZING!

When Mom came and told us that Santa was downstairs and to get out of bed we grumbled and moaned and didn't believe her! She made us get up and it was a free-for-all when we saw Santa and all those presents! After that, no kid could tell US there was no Santa - we'd seen him!!!

6. Sneak-a-peek - Confession: I love to snoop! Ever since I was a child I've always snooped around for my gifts. It's so bad that my DH has left my gifts at his parent's house so I couldn't get at them! I always want to shake, squeeze, sniff and poke at the gift until .............ooooops, it's opened a bit and I can SEE it! LOL!

7. Snow: I love the snow and always wish for a white Christmas! 2008 brought the first White Christmas for all of Canada since 1971!

8. Letters to Santa: Did you know that you can write to Santa and he'll write back? Write to: Santa Clause c/o The North Pole, Canada HOH OHO. The girls loved writing their letters and taking them out to put them in the mail box.
9.Matching PJ's: I buy the girls matching pj's that they get to open and wear on Christmas Eve! That way, Christmas morning they coordinate and I can tell which Christmas the pictures are from at a glance! (if only Old Navy would make matching Patterned Paper - then I would truly be in Heaven)

10. Fave drink: Eggnog, it's not Christmas until I get some Eggnog! There are recipes at http://www.eggnogrecipe.net/ (but i'll drink mine right from the carton!)

11.The Best Gift Ever: was given to us this past Christmas. Our baby girl Skyler was born 2 days before Christmas!

12. Gifts - What Christmas would be complete without GIFTS! So I am giving away a RAK to anyone who becomes a Follower AND leaves a comment about one of their traditions! If you are already a Follower - Wooo Hooo, you are 1/2 way there!

Have a great Christmas in July!

I think my current favourite Christmas traditions would have to be watch "Love Actually" with Mike on Christmas Eve while wrapping prezzies. Love that you're a snoop! Too funny! Thanks for sharing so much about your 12 traditions. Very cool.

Merry Christmas! We share many of the same traditions. I have sent homemade cards for 10 plus years now and love doing it. I send somewhere between 80 and 90 cards, so I do have to start early or pay the piper in late November. So far, I have thirty odd done, a third of the way there! We also do the pJ thing on Christmas Eve, though not always matching. My Mom did that for me and my three siblings growing up so I had to keep it up since we loved it.

My youngest was born in late November and we found that very special at that time of year, two days before must have been magical...

Thanks for sharing your great layouts!

What a neat idea! Love your traditions post.
I became a follower- great blog.
One of my traditions growing up- HUGE Christmas breakfast with all kinds of goodies (what was the point? Huge dinner later?) I can't eat like that anymore...but it was great.

What a great post Carrie, I love all your layouts and traditions. I'm already a follower but one of our traditions is that we get to eat chocolate for breakfast on Christmas morning. This only happens on Chritmas and Easter.

love your 12 days!! You are just like my sis, snoopers!!! We are starting some new family traditions along with oldies. We put up our tree (it's fake) and all the xmas trimmings in the house Dec. 1. We will be doing a xmas lights & stanley park train as our new tradition this year.

My fave xmas tradition ended last year: all my dad's extended family gets together for Christmas night dinner (I have 18+ cousins there). When we have a house big enough, I'd like to restart this tradition for my kids to remember. These dinners are some of my fave memories from childhood.

Good job! Digging on your list-though i wasnt a snooper, til christmas morning then my sister and i (in our matching feety jammies) would find the doorway to the livingroom barricaded with all kinds of stuff-sheets, mattresses, plywood, you name it-so we couldnt peek! Dad was dedicated to that first shot of the girls eyeing their christmas presents, hee

YAY for Christmas! Happy holidays ;)

Hahaha, we did the same thing with Santa for my daughters. When their friends started not believing, they were still so sure:-) Thanks for the memories and great Christmas ideas.

Christmas babies are the best aren't they?! I have two myself. We started a tradition about five years ago of opening Christmas crackers before Christmas dinner. Everyone reads their jokes out loud and we take a group photo wearing our paper crowns. Then there's usually some trinket trading after that.

I love the matching PJ idea! I must remember it for when I have a family of my own!
One of my favorite traditions is listening to Dylan Thomas read "A Child's Christmas in Wales" after dinner in front of a fire. My whole family curls up in arm chairs (or on the rug for my dog), to listen as we loosen our belts and gently dose at the end of a lovely holiday.
Great blog!

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!

Mele Kalikimaka! Maligayang Pasko!

(still getting around to visit the Christmas parties…since this was our daughter’s last weekend home before flying back to college today!)

Loved your list! great sotries and pics of your cute kids.
...White Christmas-one of our favs (hmm, didnt remember that Die Hard was at Christmas time. haha, I'll have to watch it again)

...great cards and love Bing's songs (my family nickname is Bing! but I like to associate it with bing cherry's...so much cuter as a girl than to think of me being like Bing Crosby...and my mom, hubby and children have the beautiful voice genes...I make a joyful noise.)

...I used to be sooo bad at sneaking a peek! Before our first daughter's first Christmas, I just HAD to peek in her first wrapped gifts that were sent from our family in Wisconsin and Hawaii! ...ssh, not many know about that!

...and eggnog! my hubby and older daughter feel the same...not Christmas til they get the Eggnog! They always do their traditional Eggnog toast! haha

...aw what a sweet Christmas gift! we have 3 Dec bdays-my hubby (the 25th), younger daughter (9th) and mine(16th)...

...sorry that I missed your giveaway, but I'll consider your lovely post as a great gift...thanks for sharing!

Blessings & Aloha!
Thank you for stopping by my family’s Christmas memory party :o) and I'm so happy you enjoyed my artwork :o)
