Halloween is a Hoot!

Halloween is a HOOT! Click on the pic if you want to see it larger.

I tried something new and made these spiral flowers. For my page I made them the centers of my flowers but they can stand alone too.
I first saw these flowers on Ally Scraps and she said to cut a 4x4 or 5x5 square but those flowers turned out to be WAYYYY too tall to put in a scrapbook album (but would be very cool on an altered item).
First, you cut a square. Mine is 1 3/4 x 1 3/4 inches (the shortest one above). Then you cut a rough circle from that square. Then you cut a spiral out of the circle. Be sure to cut it with wavy lines so that you get the look of petals later (no perfect spirals here - toooo boring!). Leave a bit of the circle in the middle so that you can put your glue dot on it and it will hold the flower together.
Then you start rolling up the spiral from the outside in. That's right, the OUTSIDE in! That way the left over bit in the center can be the anchor for your flower. To begin with roll it very tight because you can loosen it up later.
When it is all rolled up, loosen it up a bit. The looser the roll the wider the flower becomes. When you are happy with it's size, stick a glue dot on the base of it to hold it together. The big glue dots will hold several of the layers in place. To get more height, push the center of the flower down/inwards.
I also scratched mine up a bit with my finger nails to make it less perfect. I think I might try to make one with a scalloped circle to see how the scallops look in the center of the flower!

Got these mints at Michaels - funny tin :D
